Call for emigrant photographs

Can you help us?

We are currently working on creating our Emigration Exhibition which will open in both museums at the end of May / June.

Do you have photos of ancestors who emigrated? Are you descended from people who emigrated from Lewis, Harris, North Uist, Benbecula, South Uist or Barra? We are looking for people who emigrated to Australia, New Zealand , USA, South Africa, Pategonia, Canada and any other country.

Please email low resolution photographs to museum@cne-siar.gov.uk and if it is something suitable for the exhibition we will then get in touch with you for a higher resolution image, and to get written permission to use them. Please tell us a little about who is in the photograph – names and dates and their relationship to each other. Please also tell us where they emigrated from – with the date if you have it – and where they emigrated to.
